Guins Strive for Big Improvement in Martin's Second

Prior to last season, Youngstown State head women’s basketball coach Cindy Martin
had never been part of a team that finished with more losses than wins in her entire
coaching and playing career. She describes herself as the most competitive person
someone will ever meet, so you can imagine how determined and excited the Penguins’
second-year head coach is to show a big improvement in 2009-10.

| Manuel, March, Nortey Named Team Captains for
2009-10 |

Youngstown -- Sophomore Macey Nortey will join
seniors Rachael Manuel and Kaitlyn March as captains of the 2009-10
Youngstown State women's basketball team, Penguins head coach Cindy Martin
announced.
Manuel and March are the lone seniors on the roster, and
Nortey is the active career leader in scoring. The trio earned their
captainship in a vote by their teammates.

Media to Address 2009-10 Season |

Youngstown -- Youngstown State Head Women's Basketball
Coach Cindy Martin and student-athletes Kaitlyn March, Macey Nortey and Boki
Dimitrov met with members of the area media on Tuesday at the program's annual
media day.
The Penguins opened their official practice season on Oct. 17
in preparation for the season opener on Nov. 13 at Elon.

Manuel Leads Service Project at Local Middle School |

Youngstown -- The Youngstown State women's
basketball team spoke about the importance of education with eighth grade
students at W.S. Guy Middle School in Liberty on Oct. 16.
The project was
overseen by senior Rachael Manuel. The Penguins' student-athletes encouraged
the school's 162 eighth graders to become more involved at school.

coach Cindy Martin spoke of optimism surrounding the upcoming 2009-10 when she
addressed the Curbstone Coaches Monday at the Blue Wolf Banquet Center in
Boardman.
