Penguins Beat Canisius and Malone, Fall to Cleveland State |

The Youngstown State swimming and diving team picked up its
first two dual meet wins of the season defeating Canisius, 172-67 and Malone
197-26 on Friday at the Beeghly Natatorium. The Penguins dropped a 139-102
decision to Cleveland State in the four-team meet. Freshman diver Casey Hill won
both the one and three meters, freshman Samantha Roberts won the 200-yard
breaststroke and YSU ended the night with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay.
The Penguins host Marshall on Saturday at 2 p.m.

| Guins Strive for Big Improvement in Martin's Second
Year |

Prior to last season,
Youngstown State head women’s basketball coach Cindy Martin had never
been part of a team that finished with more losses than wins in her
entire coaching and playing career. She describes herself as the most
competitive person someone will ever meet, so you can imagine how
determined and excited the Penguins’ second-year head coach is to show a
big improvement in 2009-10.

| Football Concludes Rugged Trek With
Contest at 11th-Ranked UNI |

The Youngstown State football team (4-4 overall
and 2-3 in the MVFC) heads to Cedar Falls, Iowa,
to take on the 11th-ranked UNI Panthers on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 5:05
p.m. Eastern time at the UNI Dome. Both teams enter the contest having dropped
two straight games. YSU's last win in Cedar Falls was in 1999. The Panthers have
won eight straight to own a 17-6 series lead.

First-Team Academic All-District IV Picks |

Senior offensive guard
Brian Mellott (Austintown, Ohio) and junior placekicker Stephen Blose
(Erie, Pa.) have been selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic
All-District IV first team, the College Sports Information Directors of
America announced on Thursday. Both players are now eligible for
Academic All-America honors.

The Youngstown State
swimming and diving team has a busy two days ahead playing host to a
four-team meet on Friday and entertaining Marshall in dual meet on
Saturday afternoon at 2 at the Beeghly Natatorium. On Friday, YSU
competes against Cleveland State,
Malone and Canisius starting at 4:30
p.m. The men's teams from those
three schools will also be in
action.
